Geraldine “Jerry” Stewart, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at her son’s home in Fisher County, Texas.
She was born in Elk City, Okla. on April 9, 1924, to her parents, Slater and Velma Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Sweetwater with Rev. Phillip Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 E. Third Street in Sweetwater.
Jerry graduated from Levelland High School. There she met and married the love of her life, Rev. Ernest Dee Stewart, Jr. on Dec. 25, 1941, in Clovis New Mexico.
With her husband, she served the Lord by playing the piano, singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday school, while raising three children and doing all the motherly duties required.
She had lived in Tuscola, TX, Robert Lee, TX, Whiteface, TX, O’Donnell, TX, Big Spring, TX, Mineral Wells, TX, Crosbyton, TX, Omaha, Nebraska, Garden City, Kansas, South Plains, TX and lived in Sweetwater the past 11 years and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Jerry was preceded in death by her husband on March 22, 2010; a son, Ernie Stewart; a grandson, Shawn Stewart; a brother, Max Smith; and her parents.
Survivors include a son, Cliff Stewart and wife Donna of Fisher County, TX; a daughter, Annette Thomas of Spur, TX; two granddaughters, Lyndi Carr of Delta, CO and Alisa Parrott and husband James; four grandsons, Shad Stewart and wife Autumn, Bryan Thomas and wife Metessa of Spur, TX, Clint Stewart of Plano, TX and Cade Simpson and wife Lindsey of Irving, TX; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shad Stewart, Bryan Thomas, Clint Stewart, Cade Simpson, James Parrott, Corey Stewart and Eric Stewart.
