All four of Sweetwater High School’s sub-varsity basketball teams won their games against Merkel squads here Tuesday.
The freshman and JV girls won big, with the freshmen (8-1) prevailng 51-15 and the JV (10-1) winning 35-17. The JV boys (9-1) won 46-41 and the freshman boys (4-2) won by a score of 57-34.
Trey Taylor had 20 points, Brandon Howell nine, Deandre Gatson six, Quentin Wetsel five, Mar-quees Jenkins four and Mike McCoy two to pace the Sweetwater JV boys, who outscored Merkel 14-2 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 39-32 deficit. The Sweetwater freshman boys got 18 points from J.P. Poe and Duanta Williams, with Poe hitting six 3-pointers. Rhett Torres had six points while Bray Amos, Nick Haley and Martes Harris had four, Jonathan Neri two and Clay Kitchens one. For the freshman girls, Lexi Castillo had 14 steals and Claire Williams had 14 points, Bianca Cas-tillo 10, Cierra Knox and Abby McPherson nine, Lexi Castillo seven and Gabby Reyes two. Also, Castillo had five assists, Bianca Castillo had four steals and five rebounds and Knox grabbed six rebounds.
For the JV girls, Karlee Murff scored eight points, Shaneese Brown seven, Larissa Locklar six, Sydney Vanderbilt five, Kayla Chowning three and Maddie Jones, Mikki Reschman and Taylor McPherson two.
