The Highland girls bas-ketball team rebounded from a loss to perennial nemesis Roby this past Friday with a 61-45 win on Monday at Ira.
Sierra Allen’s 23 points and Kara Hughey’s 19 led Highland, which is now 2-1 in District 11-A, Division II and 13-4 overall while Ira is 1-2, 5-10. Lora Stewart and Megan Thompson had six points for the Lady Hornets, ranked No. 24 in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
Allen had seven points to pace Highland in Friday’s 33-15 loss to Roby (3-0).
The Highland boys lost 68-32 on Monday to Ira in their district opener. Ron Covington had 10 points for the Hornets (2-11), who also lost a non-district game to Jayton 37-22 on Friday. Covington was also the leading scorer against Jayton with 10 points.
The Lady Hornets from Blackwell are 1-2 in District 12-A, Division II and 2-10 overall after their two rec-ent defeats. Blackwell was beaten by Bronte this past Friday and lost 36-19 on Monday at Robert Lee.Amanda Bullard had 10 against Robert Lee. Black-well’s Hornets (5-7) played their district opener and lost to Robert Lee 37-30 on Monday. Allen was the leading scorer with nine and J. Fields had eight.
Playing a very good Cross Plains team that is currently ranked No. 21 in Class 1A, Division I, the Roscoe girls (8-7) were defeated 54-26 in the teams’ game Friday. Cross Plains led 34-17 at halftime. Lynnsi Moses scored seven points and Sara Kingston five for Roscoe, which will not be-gin district until the Plow-girls host Munday Jan. 6. The Roscoe girls and boys play at Sterling City’s tour-nament while both High-land teams are at Grady’s tournament Dec. 27-28.
