The state-ranked High-land girls were the only area team to win on Friday among the five high school squads from Nolan County who competed in district basketball games.
Highland, ranked No. 21 in Class A, Division II, won its contest at Trent 41-28 to improve to 16-6 overall and 4-1 in district.
Sierra Allen scored 19 points to pace the Lady Hornets. Kara Hughey had seven, Beth Richburg five, Kaylee Martin four and Madison Moseley, Lora Stewart and Megan Thompson all finished with two points.
At Roscoe, the Plowgirls hosted Munday in their District 9-A, Division I opener but lost 52-46 despite a fourth-quarter rally. The Roscoe boys were idle and begin district play Tuesday.
The Roscoe JV girls, however, beat Munday’s JV 34-20 with Shelby Brown and Selena Perez both scoring eight points.
Lynnsi Moses scored 24 points for the varsity girls while Sara Kingston had 10, Mirian Solis four, Jacinda Morales three, Torrey Willman and Faith Boren two and Stina Tomlin one. Moses also had 10 rebounds.
Highland’s varsity boys lost to Trent 56-33 to fall to 1-2 in district. Shelby Howard scored 12 points while Ron Covington had eight points, Kevin Box five, Brandon Stevens four and Garrett Stewart and Laramie Thompson two points apiece.
Blackwell’s teams went to Garden City in District 12-A, Division II on Friday. The girls lost their game 68-20, while the boys fell 76-13. Stephanie Metcalf had seven, Amanda Bul-lard six, Leo Castelo five and Reecie Roland two for the girls while the boys got six from Mason Magness, four by Jordan Fields and three by Jayden Jones.
