Six Sweetwater players today earned Class 3A all-Big Country football recognition from the Abilene Reporter-News.
Of the six Mustangs who were honored, three made the first team — Mateo Gonzales on the defensive line and Dylon Adames and Malcolm Jackson on the offensive line.
Nick Nemir made the second team as a defensive back. His older brother Sam Nemir (linebacker) and Taylor Jones (quarterback) got all-Big Country honorable mention on the Class 3A team.
Jackson, a 5-10, 230-pound senior who last month received all-state honorable mention from the Associated Press Sports Editors, graded at 92 percent on the offensive line and Adames, a 5-10, 185-pound senior, graded at 91 percent for Sweetwater with neither player allowing a sack.
Gonzales, also a senior, had 43 solo tackles and 32 assists, including 16 tackles for a loss, and he also had three sacks. He was first team all-district while Adames and Jackson were second team all-district.
Nick Nemir had 23 solo tackles, 24 assists and two interceptions, while Sam Nemir had a team-high 88 tackles. Jones, who like Sam Nemir is a senior, threw for 1,073 yards in his third year as starting quarterback. Sam Nemir was a first team all-district utility back and made the second team as a linebacker. Nick Nemir, a junior, was first team all-district and Jones earned second team all-district honors.
