After losing District 5-3A contests to a pair of Wylie squads ranked in the state’s top 25 on Friday, the Sweetwater High School boys and girls will try again today as they entertain Big Spring. This time, the odds may be more favorable as Big Spring, like Sweetwater, is also winless in District 5-3A play.
The girls (0-2, 14-13) tip off at 6 p.m. against a Big Spring team that is also off to an 0-2 start, although the Lady Steers have an impressive 16-7 season record.
Big Spring has played a tougher schedule, facing No. 1-ranked Wylie and No. 7 Brownwood so far.
The Sweetwater and Big Spring boys, who are both off to 0-1 starts in District 5-3A, tip off at 7:30 p.m.
In District 9-A, Division I, the Roscoe girls (1-2) and boys (1-1) travel to Hamlin; in District 12-A, Division II, the Blackwell girls (1-6) and boys (0-5) host Veribest; and in District 11-A, Division II, the Highland girls (5-1) and boys (2-2) host Hermleigh. The Roscoe boys are com-ing off their first win of the season, 33-32, over Rotan.
Highland’s teams had a bye this past Friday. The girls are ranked No. 18 by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
