Sweetwater’s sub-varsity girls basketball teams came away with a split when they hosted Snyder on Tuesday.
The JV girls, who are 16-5 overall, lost for the first time in district play as they fell to Snyder, 52-49.
But the freshman girls fared much better, winning 44-24 to improve to 15-4 this season.
The JV girls held slender leads of 11-10, 27-26 and 40-38 at the breaks, but Snyder won the final quarter 14-9 to pull out the victory as Sweetwater fell to 4-1 in district despite a 19-point effort from Claire Williams. Maddie Jones had 10 points while Kayla Chowning had seven, Shaneese Brown six, Larissa Locklar four and Taylor McPherson three for the Lady Mustangs.
The freshman girls are now 2-3 in district as they led 12-6, 21-16 and 34-18 at the breaks.
Cierra Knox led Sweetwa-ter with 19 points. Abby McPherson had 12, Bianca Castillo six, Lexi Castillo three and Jasmine Reddic and Gabby Reyes two.
