ABILENE — The Sweet-water freshman boys bas-ketball team led at the end of each quarter and held on Friday to defeat Wylie’s freshman boys, 50-48.
Isaiah McGee had 13 points and Rhett Torres 11 to pace Sweetwater, which is 3-3 in district, 12-6 for the season. Also scoring points were Duanta Williams with nine, Mar-tes Harris with seven, Bray Amos with six and J.P. Poe and Clay Kitchens with two each.
Sweetwater led 15-5 af-ter one quarter, 32-26 at halftime and 38-32 after three periods.
Sweetwater’s JV girls lost their game, 48-37, to fall to 5-2 district, 17-5 for the season. Maddie Jones and Claire Williams each scored eight points while Taylor McPherson had seven, Kayla Chowning six, Shaneese Brown and Larissa Locklar three and Mikki Reschman two.
Sweetwater’s JV boys lost to Wylie’s JV, 67-23.
Trey Taylor scored nine points to pace Sweetwater, which saw its marks fall to 2-4 in district and 15-10 overall. Also providing scoring help was Quentin Wetsel with seven points, Marquees Jenkins with five and Deandre Gatson with two points.
The result of the Sweet-water freshman girls’ contest Friday against Wylie was unavailable at press time for Sunday’s paper. However, results will run in a future edition. The freshman and JV girls end their season Tuesday when they host Brown-wood, with the boys teams also hosting Brownwood.
