ABILENE — Wylie had plenty to celebrate when the No. 1-ranked Lady Bulldogs took the floor on their home gym for the final time this season on Friday, and com-pleted a perfect run through District 5-3A with an easy 64-38 win over Sweetwater.
It was also the final home game for a celebrated Wylie senior, with Peyton Little scoring 30 points to pace the victory.
After a pregame ceremony to honor both Little and Wylie’s other senior, Alexis Lane, the game got off to a slow start. But Little scored the first points almost three minutes into the contest, and added three more bas-kets before Kendra Crosson finally scored Sweetwater’s first point on a free throw.
Wylie then added six points in the last minute of the first period, the last three on a Little three-point play, to open up its first double-digit advantage, 14-3, and the Lady Bulldogs were well on their way to another big win.
Wylie now looks forward to the playoffs after finishing 8-0 in district and 28-5 overall. Sweetwater, which is 1-6 in district and 15-17 overall, hosts Brownwood — the district’s No. 2 playoff team after beating Big Spring 40-26 — in its season finale on Tuesday.
Another pair of seniors, Alicia Finn and Candice Hernandez, paced Sweetwa-ter’s effort Friday as Finn scored 12 points and Her-nandez 10. Also scoring for the Lady Mustangs against Wylie were Kendra Crosson with seven, Kelsi Crosson with four, Kinsey Browning and Kathleen Campbell with two each and Shelby Cason with one. Browning is the team’s only other senior.
