Highland’s junior high girls basketball team beat Hermleigh 27-22 and Trent 32-28 to win first place honors at a tournament held in Trent on Jan. 28.
Highland built a big half-time lead (18-6) and held on to beat Hermleigh, but had to rally to beat Trent after trailing 16-15 at halftime. Hannah Allen had 10, Sydny Helbert eight, Kailee Hall six and Kelsi Johns three against Hermleigh while no individual scores against Trent were given.
After winning the tourna-ment, Highland lost its next game to Roby 28-22 before coming back a few days later to beat Trent 23-21 in its final game Feb. 6.
Helbert had 13 points, Allen five and Kassie Gunn and Hannah Kirby two each against Roby in a game that was deadlocked 15-15 at halftime. Helbert scored 11 points, Gunn four, Allen and Kirby three and Johns two in the victory over Trent in a game Highland trailed 19-15 after three quarters.
In recent junior high boys action, Highland (7-6) lost its game to Roby 27-15 on Jan. 30 but also came back a few days later to beat Trent 20-18 in its Feb. 6 finale.
Seth Wood had six points, Eli Shelton five and Jon Basye and Matt Taylor two against Roby in a game that Highland actually led 13-10 at halftime. Wood scored 10 points, Jacob Richburg six and Emrick Wilson four in Highland’s win over Trent, in a game Highland trailed 13-10 after three periods.
