The burn ban was approved to remain lifted at the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, April 9, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
The decision was made following the rain seen throughout the county over the past weekend--along with the chances of precipitation forecasted for this week--and will remain lifted until the next meeting.
Also approved at the meeting was the continuation of paying an employee's medical and dental premiums while on an extended worker's comp leave.
The minutes from the March 26, 2012 meeting were also approved, along with the received reports from the Nolan County Clerk, Treasurer, Auditor, Veterans' Service Office and the Government Trapper.
Following the action items, a citizen in the audience--who inquired about the courthouse repairs and county jail construction projects at the last regular meeting on March 26--noted that he spoke with Nolan County Sheriff David Warren about the matter.
He raised a concern about a possible consolidation with the city jail, in which Judge Tim Fambrough noted that while there are jail cells at the Sweetwater Police Department, they are not used.
For at least the past 20 years, the city has used the Nolan County jail cells. A joint city and county jail was initially considered, said Fambrough, but the plan eventually fell through.
In addition, Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden informed the commissioners that the DeltAlert mass notification system is in its early phases of set-up for local use. With landlines slowly becoming obsolete in households, civic websites like the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department will also be utilized.
The system will allow for the user to set up alerts through a variety of ways such as faxes, text messages, and calls on cell phones. A detailed report on the DeltAlert system is slated to be given at a later date.
Later in the day on Monday afternoon, the commissioners reconvened for a workshop in regards to the construction manager at risk for the dual county projects in order to discuss and develop requirements and guidelines for the role.
