Sweetwater advanced to the playoffs in softball for the first time in 15 years this season, and nine of the team’s players have earned all-District 5-3A honors to recognize that success.
Three Lady Mustangs, all of them juniors, were named to the all-district first team — outfielder Kelsi Crosson, pitcher Maty Montgomery and infielder Suede Shirley. Crosson batted .453 and slugged two homers — five points higher than freshman teammate Claire Williams, who was named as the district co-newcomer of the year along with Snyder’s Lindzi Clemmer. Williams led Sweetwater by hitting three home runs. Shirley batted .434 with one home run, while Montgomery had a 13-9 pitching record.
Three players were named to the second team — senior infielders Kinsey Browning and Alicia Finn and junior outfielder Kendra Crosson. Crosson batted .397 with one homer while Finn batted .311 with a homer.
Junior catcher Keyli Turner and freshman utility player Megan Holsey earned honorable mention.
Turner batted .364 with a home run while Holsey hit .422 this past season.
