Graveside services for Leon “Cotton” Rawlings, 80, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Gary Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Rawlings died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 29, 1921 in Troup, TX. He lived in Sweetwater since 1943. He co-owned and operated Short Stop Grocery in Sweetwater for several years.
Survivors include his son, Leon Rawlings, Jr. and wife Kaye of Abilene; his former wife, Louise Foust Rawlings of Sweetwater; brother, W. Lee Rawlings and wife Sue of Sweetwater; three grandchildren, John Rawlings and wife Tiffany of Roscoe, SGM Terry Wade and wife Wendy of El Paso and Heather Reyes and husband Tim of Abilene; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Louire Luce Rawlings; a daughter, Janie Elaine Woodward; sister, Edith Lawhon; and a brother, Johnny Rawlings.
