Another “All Class Reunion” for Homecoming 2012 is planned for Saturday, Sept. 8, from 2 p.m. to midnight at the Sweetwater High School Cafeteria, according to Linda Kiser Browning Miller, event director.
Jeff Stein of KXOX Radio will be the emcee, and Big Boys BBQ will cater the supper at 5:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and a short program will be held at 5 p.m. After the barbecue supper, J.B. Cloud of KBCY Radio of Abilene will serve as D.J. for the music and dance beginning at about 7:30 p.m. The D.J. will present music from the 50’s to the present.
The crowd will be able to congregate inside the cafeteria as well as outside on the patio in the breezeway between the cafeteria and the gym. It should be noted that no smoking or alcohol will be allowed on the school grounds.
Entrance to the cafeteria will be on the north side of the high school near the gym.
Ticket prices for attendance and the meal are $25 each; tickets for attendance only are $10. Approximately 300 meal tickets will be available. Checks should be mailed to Linda Miller, P.O. Box 2652, Abilene, Texas 79604. Tickets will be mailed upon receipt of checks. At the welcome desk, tickets will be traded for name tags, which will also work as a come and go pass. For more information, contact Miller at 325-675-5789, or cell 325-725-0872 (Abilene) or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Cold water and sodas will be available during the day.
The Class of 1967 will join the All Class Reunion in celebration of its 45th anniversary. Gayle Reed Greer is in charge of that group’s plans; she can be reached at 325-236-6998.
“All other classes celebrating a milestone year are also welcome to come join us,” Miller said.
Each class is encouraged to promote this reunion, in order to have as many of their classmates attending as possible.
Linda Miller of the Class of 1966 is being assisted in planning for the all-class event by I.L. Holdridge, Class of 1967; Tony Caldwell, Class of 1966; Chris Davidson, Class of 1975; and Linda Kinsey Spetter, Class of 1968. This will be the third “all class reunion” that Miller has directed; Dick Dowell, Class of 1975, directed one at Lake Sweetwater in 2010, along with help from Davidson and Jeanne Nayfa Brewer, Class of 1974.
The concept of “all class reunion” is becoming a tradition for Sweetwater High, as the 2012 event will be the fourth such event in recent years. As Holdridge explained, the all class reunion “is intended primarily as an alternative SHS Homecoming weekend event for those folks whose graduating class is not having its own private get-together. That being said, all SHS’ers are welcome to buy a ticket – up to the capacity of the location.”
People should plan to get their tickets and hotel reservations as soon as possible, Miller said, as a Ranch Rodeo is being held at the Nolan County Coliseum the same weekend and may make hotel rooms scarce.
