Two blood drives will take place in Sweetwater on Thursday, July 5, from noon until 6 p.m. One blood drive will take place inside the Lions Club building at 1501 Lamar, and a bloodmobile will be parked at the Nolan County Courthouse. Blood shortages occur most often during the summer months, especially around holidays.
Meek Blood Center recently revised their guidelines regarding many medications and medical conditions, which will qualify more people as blood donors. Those who have been deferred for medications and medical conditions in the past are asked to call 325-670-2798 to inquire about eligibility.
Blood donors are needed on a daily basis to take care of patients with a variety of medical needs and conditions. The need for a blood transfusion is usually immediate, and adequate supply of all blood types that has been processed and tested must be available at all times. There is no artificial substitute for human blood. All blood products used for blood transfusions must come from volunteer donors. Meek Blood Center supplies all of the blood used for patient care at 17 area hospitals covering 14 counties, including Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
