Funeral services for Jimmy Don Smith, 64, of Sweetwater, will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Stevens and Rev. Vic Meyer officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Smith died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at his home.
He was born Jan. 31, 1948, in Welington, Texas. He married Sue Marshall on March 6, 1972, in Miami, Okla. Jimmy had live in Sweetwater since age six and was a graduate of Newman High School. He recently retired from the Texas Department of Transportation as a Crew Chief in maintenance. Jimmy was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He was a Baptist and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Smith of Sweetwater; daughter, Christy Freeman and husband Jason of Roscoe; son, Brian Smith and wife Jami of Balch Springs, Texas; four grandchildren, Devon, Dillon and Dakota Freeman and Brian Smith, Jr.; and brother, Lindell Smith and wife Bobbie of Nolan, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolin and Mildred Seale Smith.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Moses, Pio Muñoz, Shawn Wilke, John Scifres, Jeff Lay, Alvin Walker, Jim Blackley and Daniel Caballero.
Honorary pallbearers will be current and former employees of the Texas Department of Transportation.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hendrick Hospice Care.
