Sweetwater’s volleyball team will stay on the road for a dual match today in Graham after placing third in the Silver Division at San Angelo’s Nita Vannoy tournament this weekend.
Sweetwater is now 10-7 overall after winning four of six tournament matches at San Angelo. On Friday, the team won two of three pool matches and opened bracket play on Saturday by knocking off El Paso Eldorado in straight sets 25-12, 25-22 to reach the semifinals where the Lady Mustangs ran into a tough, No. 3-ranked team from Monahans and lost 10-25, 17-25. But Sweetwater came back to end the tournament by defeating Lubbock Monterey 25-17, 25-17 for third place.
Sweetwater defeated Midland Christian on Fri-day before losing its sec-ond pool match to Amarillo Palo Duro in three games, but came back to beat Odessa High by scores of 25-23, 24-26, 25-23.
Sweetwater’s Kelsi Cros-son was a bright spot for the team with 12 digs against Monahans, while Kendra Crosson and Kathleen Campbell had four kills. All three players had five kills against Lubbock Monterey, and Kendra Crosson had a team-high 12 digs as well.
Against Midland Chris-tian, Kelsi Crosson had eight kills; against Palo Duro, Shelby Cason and Suede Shirley had seven kills and vs. Odessa High, Kendra Crosson had 14 kills to lead Sweetwater, which doesn’t play at home again until next Tuesday when it plays host to Colorado City. Sweetwater will play in Wolfforth Frenship’s tournament on Friday and Saturday.
After playing Colorado City, Sweetwater plays two more road matches, first at Lamesa on Sept. 11 and then a dual match at Lub-bock Cooper on Sept. 15 before coming back home against Miles for its final non-district game Sept. 18.
