William Richard “Bill” Norred died Sept. 6, 2012, in Dallas. Norred was a longtime resident of Sweetwater, having moved to a retirement community in 2003.
Norred was born in Snyder, Texas on Oct. 15, 1929, the son of the late Albert and Faye Norred of Sweetwater. He graduated from Sweetwater High School and the University of Texas. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and in 1953 went into business with his father in the Buick-Cadillac dealership in Sweetwater. He sold Norred Motor Co. in 1975 and worked for the next 25 years for Ludlum Measurements.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Sweetwater, having served in various offices and as a Sunday school teacher. He was a member and past president of the Rotary Club and chairman of the Sweetwater-Nolan County Child Welfare Board.
Norred is survived by his wife of 57 years, Flozelle; his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and James Derr of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Nancy and Mark Elliott of Burleson and Kristi and Loren Sauer of Frisco; and grandchildren, Christopher and Dina Bails of Mansfield, Courtney Bails of Mansfield and Caroline and Hannah Sauer of Frisco.
A memorial service will be held in Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. Internment will be private at the DFW National Cemetery.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sweetwater, 309 Cedar, Sweetwater, Texas 79556; the County-City Library, 206 Elm, Sweetwater; or to the charity of their choice.
