Both of Sweetwater’s sub-varsity high school football teams picked up road wins at Andrews on Thursday.
The junior varsity defeated Andrews 28-7, while the Sweetwater freshman team rallied from a 14-0 first-half deficit to win 26-14.
Both teams will host Breckenridge on Thursday in their home openers.

Sweetwater scored in all four quarters in defeating Andrews. Quarterback Hay-den Reeves threw touch-down passes of 29 and 9 yards to Deandre Gatson and 7 yards to James Clift, and Mark McCann scored the last TD on a 41-yard run. Reeves threw for 120 yards in all and Gatson had five catches for 71 yards. Kris Duran had 112 yards rushing and Jay Lomas ran over a pair of 2-point conversions. On defense, Clift, Duran and Michael McCoy had interceptions and Donato Gaxiola caused a fumble. “Defensively we put Andrews in a lot of tough situations,” said coach Jake Freeman. “When you win the turnover battle you put yourself in a great position to win the football game, and that’s what we did.”

Max Gomez ran for two TDs and Adrian Vizzerra and Austin Kamer one for Sweetwater’s freshmen, and D’Jaman West had a two-point run. West and Denzel Moore had interceptions and Cory Mendez, Scott Warner, Michael Lawrence, Max Nemir and J’Corey Amos had strong defensive games. Other offensive standouts were Branson Guelker, Daniel Maldonado, Mark Lawrence, Dylan Jimenez and Israel Vera.
The teams were tied 14-14 at halftime, but Sweetwater blanked Andrews over the final two quarters.
