After getting a week off, Roscoe’s football team is back in action today to start District 7-1A, Division II play at Baird. Roscoe (0-3) is still looking for its first win of the 2012 season after losses to De Leon, Irion County and Miles so far. However, the Plowboys face a Baird team (1-2) that has lost to De Leon and Haskell after defeating Menard in its season opener.
The only team in Roscoe’s district to play last week was Hamlin (1-2). Albany (2-1) is the only team in the eight-member district with a winning mark and Roscoe is one of three teams that are still winless, and Albany is the only team that had a winning record in 2011, which should help Roscoe’s chances of getting its first victory in two years. Baird had just one win this past season, going 1-8.
Meanwhile, Highland is hoping to stay hot as it hosts unbeaten Trent (4-0). Highland (2-2), after dropping its first two games, has beaten Loraine and Sands and needs one more win to equal its 2011 total and also achieve its first three-game winning streak under Jeff Shelton, the Hornets’ second-year head coach.
Blackwell is hoping to get back to its winning ways after the Hornets (2-2) saw a 10-point second-half lead drift away this past Friday in a 50-44 loss to Trent.
After going 1-9 a year ago, Blackwell has beaten West-brook and Brookesmith so far and hopes to add to its 2012 total today when the Hornets host Blanket (1-3).
Blackwell and Highland have their Battle of the Hor-nets Oct. 12, with the game at Highland this year.
