It’s been awhile since the Sweetwater High School tennis team has seen action due in part to the weather. But if Mother Nature permits, the team is scheduled to play at a two-day tournament in Andrews today and Saturday.
Sweetwater last played on Sept. 25 at Abilene Cooper, and played it close only to lose 11-8. Results follow:
Girls doubles — Jenny Medellin and Kristen Casto won 8-5; Gewel Cherry and Teresa Perez-Poe won 8-6; Vida Gamez and Ashley Heaton won 8-0.
Boys doubles — Bryan Vause and Isaiah Hernan-dez won 8-3; Stephen Shipp and Zach Bax lost 2-8; Key-gan Valdez and Michael Redondo lost 4-8.
Mixed doubles — Billy Reeves and Keyli Turner lost 8-9 (2-7).
Girls singles — Medellin lost 3-6, 2-6; Casto lost 1-6, 2-6; Cherry won 6-2, 6-1; Perez-Poe won 6-4, 4-6 (11-9); Gamez won 7-6 (8-6), 6-2; Heaton lost 4-6, 2-6.
Boys singles — Shipp lost 2-6, 3-6; Hernandez lost 2-6, 1-6; Vause lost 4-6, 4-6; Bax lost 4-6, 2-6; Redondo lost 2-6, 1-6; Valdez had his match called after splitting two sets.
