Picked by one area publication to finish last in their respective districts, Nolan County’s two six-man foot-ball teams have proved to be anything but pushovers during the non-district por-tion of their schedules.
And both Highland (4-2) and Blackwell (3-3) — who end non-district play Friday by facing each other in their “Battle of the Hornets” at Highland — had lopsided wins Saturday while playing in front of friendly homecoming crowds.
BLACKWELL 54, MORAN 8
Jayden Jones (184 yards rushing) scored four touchdowns and Kaleb Edwards, Wade Allen, Cody Shamblin and Franck Cano one each for Blackwell. Edwards, Jones and Allen caught TD passes against Moran (0-6) and the Hornets finished with 293 yards on just 27 snaps. While most of the damage came on 226 yards rushing, Blackwell also had an effective passing game as Ethan Andrews was 6-of-7 for 67 yards and three TDs. Ted Chambliss caught two balls and Jones, Edwards, Allen and Mark Monroe one. On defense, Jones had an interception and Trustan Cox recovered a fumble and the team’s top tacklers were Mason Magness (six solos and four assists), Chambliss (six solos and one assist), Jones (three solos and three assists), Cano (three solos and two assists), Monroe (three solos and one assist), Edwards (one solo and four assists) and Cox (one solo and three assists).
