The Sixth Annual West Texas Wind Festival is expected to be another event in which families from the surrounding areas can gather for many activities on the streets of Roscoe. The free event will feature headline act country music legend Gene Watson and Band. Canyon Rim will also perform during the event, along with local and regional talent. The live music will begin about 2 p.m. The Tennessee Stiffs will go on at 6 p.m. During the event there will also be a kids area (bounce houses).
Other attractions this year include the Plowboy Mud Bog at George Parks Field, food and craft vendors downtown, The Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department steak cook-off and a fireworks show. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday. Oct. 20, 2012, in Downtown Roscoe "On The Bricks".
Vendors will check in from 7-9:30 a.m. in front of Roscoe City Hall. Call Kelly Etheredge at 325-725-0756 for vendor information.
A new event will also take place this year. From 7:30-8:45 a.m. registration will take place for the Roscoe Elementary 5k Run with the Wind. The run will begin at 9 a.m. and there is a $20 entry fee.
The Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department steak cook-off will be held during the West Texas Wind Festival. Cooking fuel can consist of wood, gas or charcoal. Events include: 16 oz ribeye steak, pork spare ribs, chicken — half of a chicken. Meat inspection begins at 8 a.m. The cooks meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Turn in times are 3 p.m. for chicken, 4 p.m. for ribeye steak, and 5 p.m. for ribs. Setup starts Friday, Oct. 19, at 6 p.m. A public electricity and water station will be provided. Cooks must enter all three events to enter the steak category. All proceeds will go to the Roscoe Fire Department. The first place steak prize is sponsored by Fuller Food of Colorado City. For prices and more information, contact Gary Armstrong at 325-235-4110.
Mud Bog registration will begin at 11 a.m. at George Parks Field. The first run will be at noon.
Announcements of the cook-off winners, give-aways and Mud Bog winners will be at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m. Gene Watson and Band will perform with fireworks at 9 p.m. Gene Watson and Band will close out the event.
