On Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, Trinity Baptist Church is celebrating the realization of a 50-year prayer and vision. “Since the beginning of the church, Trinity has had a vision of growth,“ says Senior Pastor Ward Hayes. “The original church was constructed with a planned addition. And while the plans were modified over time, the vision to grow and serve the community of Sweetwater has remained steadfast.”
Trinity held its first worship service on Oct. 21, 1956, and exactly 56 years later, the church will celebrate the dedication of its new Family Life Center. “This new space is such a blessing. The “Big Room” is 2,500 square feet of beautifully finished space that also has an 18-foot ceiling, allowing it to be a very versatile room.” Pastor Hayes noted that this space can be utilized for sporting activities, church fellowships, Bible studies, movie nights and many other events and activities. The church’s new building is also home to a large new kitchen. “The ladies are very excited about the kitchen, which is probably three times the size of our previous one. We are eager to see the new ministry opportunities we will have in our new building.”
Completing the building are a new parking lot and a new sign on the corner of Hailey and Santa Fe. Designed to be senior adult-friendly, the new entrances have no steps to be negotiated. “We wanted our entrances to be easily accessed without the use of stairs or steps, and we wanted our service times to be available as well.”
Trinity invites the community to celebrate with the church during a come-and-go Open House on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 2-4 p.m. Refreshments will be available and attendees will be invited to roam throughout the church facility to see all the updates made to the church over the last few years. Pastor Hayes stated, “We have been so blessed by all of the encouragement the community has given us over these years that we are blessed to have everyone celebrate all that has been accomplished. Trinity Baptist Church is located at the corner of Hailey and Santa Fe Streets, with entrance to the new Family Life Center being the first turn to the right after you have entered Santa Fe Street from Hailey.
