The Roscoe boys basket-ball team began its 2012-13 season with a 60-24 loss at Hawley on Tuesday.
Javier Leanos paced Roscoe with 12 points. Brant Burnett had three points, Esteban Benivamondez, Dillon Freeman, Luke Rov-ig and Shelton Toliver two and Cutter Davila one. The girls’ game with Hawley was not available at press time.
The Highland girls basketball team went to a neutral site — Water Valley — for a 61-30 win over McCamey on Monday.
Sierra Allen had 21 points to pace Highland (5-2), but two other Lady Hornets — Kaylee Martin (11) and Hannah Martin (10) — also hit double figures. In addi-tion, Schyler Kimbrell had six points, Lora Stewart five, Beth Richburg four and Sydny Helbert and Madison Moseley two.
Highland jumped out to a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, and also led 27-10 at halftime and 47-20 at the end of three periods.
Blackwell’s basketball teams lost at Jayton on Tuesday. The girls fell 52-39 and the boys lost 68-39. Both of Blackwell’s teams are still winless for the young season.
Ted Chambliss led the Blackwell boys with 12 points while Mark Monroe had seven, Wade Allen six, Ethan Andrews five, Jay-den Jones three and Bennie Wester, Mason Magness and Matthew Meyer two.
Stephanie Metcalf led the Blackwell girls as she had 11 points. Also scoring for Blackwell were Hailey Bennett (10), Brooklyn Har-ris (five), Bethany Breaux (four), Elizabeth Rozzlle (four), Rodriguez (four) and Leonor Castelo (one).
Highland’s boys (1-3) lost 60-35 to Garden City on Tuesday. The Hornets were led by Ron Covington and Kevin Box’s eight points. Jeremey Hall, Laramie Thompson and Ethan Wil-son had four points, Jacob Richburg three and Kaden Nachlinger and Seth Wood two apiece.
The results of the Sweetwater boys’ basketball game at Wall on Tuesday were not available at press time today.
