Blackwell’s best football season in four years — one that ended with its first playoff appearance since 2008 — saw six Hornets make the all-District 8, Division II six-man first team and nine players honored in all.
Making the all-district first team at two positions were junior Jayden Jones at both running back and linebacker and senior Mark Monroe at both fullback and on the defensive line.
Also named to the first team for Blackwell were senior Cody Shamblin at tight end, junior Ted Chambliss at safety, junior Mason Magness at corner-back and sophomore Franck Cano on the defensive line.
Shamblin at noseguard and Chambliss at center were also named to the second team, as was Cano as a running back. Also on the second team are sophomore Wade Allen at tight end and kicker, junior Ethan And-rews at quarterback and junior Kaleb Edwards on the defensive line.
Jones, Edwards, Chamb-liss and Magness were all named to the all-district second team a year ago as sophomores. Jones rushed for 1,783 yards and 30 touchdowns during the regular season and also recorded a team-high 119 tackles; Andrews completed 50 of 82 passes for 727 yards and 11 TDs; and Chambliss had 18 catches for 366 yards and four scores. Also, Magness had 100 tackles, Edwards 92, Chambliss 87, Cano 86 and Monroe 82.
Blackwell finished 2-1 in district and 5-6 overall after making the playoffs as the district runnerup to champion Robert Lee.
