SAN ANGELO — The Sweetwater boys won their seventh straight game on Tuesday, but just barely. The Mustangs escaped with a thrilling 60-58 road win at San Angelo Lake View to improve to 11-7 overall.
Kaleb Hoover scored a season-high 23 points, including a tie-breaking layup as time ran out, to give Sweetwater the victory in its final tuneup for the start of District 4-3A action that begins Friday.
Sweetwater led 47-37 en-tering the fourth quarter after outscoring Lake View 24-13 in the third stanza, but the Chiefs rallied and tied it at 58 on a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left.
Hoover got double-figure scoring support from both Rhett Torres, who scored 12 points, and Dylan Bennett, who had 10. Deandre Gat-son and Cole Maxwell had five points, Isaiah McGee three and Michael Hunt two to complete the scoring.
Down 13-5 after one per-iod, Sweetwater came back with a vengeance by outscoring Lake View 42-24 over the next two quarters to build its 10-point lead.
