While in its early stages, preliminary concept plans for a new Police Station were presented during the February meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission by Police Chief Brian Frieda.
As a result of available capital improvement funds, it was announced at the December 2012 meeting that a contract was signed by the city with Wiginton Hooker Jeffry Architects, P.C. for work to be done on a police station. Since that time, the architects have constructed a concept plan for the city.
The preliminary concept was drafted after examining the current conditions and staff. Among the amenities outlined by Frieda were an area to host classes for outside agencies, along with areas for patrol officers and sergeants.
In addition, the plan also noted areas for juvenile detention, an interview room and an area for processing. Along with lockers, showers and restrooms, the station would have an uninterrupted power supply as well as an emergency generator.
From the original concept, 17% has already been trimmed off. The approximate 14,000 square-foot facility would be located within a block and a half from the Sweetwater ISD Administration Building on Musgrove and three blocks from Sweetwater Middle School, located on Lamar. No action was taken on this issue.
