Thousands attended the 55th Annual Sweetwater Jaycees World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up.
The total pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnake weighed totaled 2,361 pounds, an increase from last year's total of 1,664 pounds. Those bringing in the most pounds of rattlesnake were first place Andy Lee with 382 pounds, second place Herbert Hoover with 223 pounds, third place the Cliffseekers with 221 pounds, fourth place Bill Stinson with 136 pounds and fifth place Eric Timaeus with 216 pounds. The longest rattlesnake was caught by Daryl and Kathleen McIntire and measured 78 inches long.
Other contests were held at the Round-Up including the rattlesnake eating contest. The winner was Chris Clack of Austin. Coming in second place was Mike Castillo of Sweetwater and Nick Roy of Midland took the third place spot. Also participating were Alex Sheley, Zane Kennedy, Jonathan Weaver, Bryce Hobbs and Keegan Pruitt.
The Sweetwater Jaycees held their beard contest with the Longest Beard award going to Riley Sawyers at seven inches. The Best Looking Beard award went to David Sager and the Ugliest Beard award went to Jonathan Meador. Also participating were Tom Henderson, Donnie Willman, Bo Browning, Brian Breeding, Danny Camacho, Robert Fortin, Blake Stephens and Travis Gardner.
The Jaycees also held a Public Beard Contest with the Longest Beard award going to Don Bryan of Lubbock with 13 inches. The Best Looking Beard award went to Chris Phillips of Albuquerque, N.M. and the Ugliest Beard award went to John Aiken of Mesquite. Also participating were Jake Ward of Abilene, James Smith of Paris, Texas, Eddie Torres of Sweetwater and Jamie Lamance of Boyd.
According to the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce, media from all over covered the event including Sweetwater, Abilene, Denton, Harker Heights, Fort Bliss, San Antonio, Austin, Odessa, Tyler, Shreveport, La., New York City, Sydney, Australia, Sweden and many more.
