Nick Nemir won both of the hurdles for Sweetwater’s varsity boys at the Merkel track meet, the Mustangs’ final tuneup before district competition that will be held next week in Snyder.
Nemir had winning times of 15.27 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 40.42 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles. Deandre Gatson was third in the triple jump (42-2) and Isaiah McGee fourth in the long jump.
The JV boys placed first out of 15 teams that competed as they scored a season-high 176 points. Brandon Gutierrez won the 1,600 and the 3,200; Marquees Jenkins won the 100 and was second in the 200; the mile relay of Rhett Torres, Mark Lawrence, Jenkins and Max Nemir was first; Deshaun Williams won the long jump and was second in the triple jump and 100; the 400 relay of Jenkins, Williams, Nemir and Torres was second; Nemir was second in the 300 hurdles; Isaiah Gonzalez was third in the 1600; Andrew Davis placed third and Kendal Rea fourth in the shot put; Mark Lawrence was sixth in the 800; and Adan Sanchez was sixth in the 3,200.
