Halfway to the playoffs.
If the season ended today, Sweetwater High School’s baseball and softball teams would be in the postseason.
But they’re not there yet.
However, the SHS base-ball team is tied for first place at the midpoint of dis-trict and can get even closer to a playoff berth today if the Mustangs (4-1 in district) win at Greenwood (1-4) today. The game begins at 7 p.m.
The SHS softball team is coming off a 10-0 loss at Snyder that dropped them out of a tie for first at 4-2, a game behind first-place Snyder’s 5-1. The Lady Mus-tangs will try to rebound against a Greenwood team that is 3-3 after starting 3-0. Sweetwater needs a win to keep pace with Snyder and Big Spring (4-2). The game begins at 5 p.m.
Big Spring is playing at Snyder, so the possibility of a three-way tie for first place exists with three games left in the season. Sweetwater’s only other district loss was to Greenwood.
The baseball team won 3-2 at Snyder to remain tied for first with Wylie, a game ahead of Big Spring and two up on Snyder.
If Big Spring loses against Snyder today and Sweetwa-ter wins, it will have a two-game lead over both teams with four to play. Sweetwa-ter’s only district loss was to Wylie, which goes to 1-4 Monahans today.
