Sweetwater High School’s junior varsity boys track team scored 145 points at last week’s district meet to finish just two points out of first place. Individual winners were Deshaun Williams in the long jump, Marquees Jenkins in the 200, Mark Lawrence in the 800, Max Nemir in the 300 hurdles and Kaegan Jeffrey in the discus. Lawrence, Nemir, Jenkins and Max Gomez ran on the first-place 400 relay and Williams, Jenkins, Gomez and Austin Kamer on the 800 relay, while Jenkins, Gomez, Williams and Nemir were on the 400 relay that placed second.
Sweetwater’s Brandon Gutierrez was second in the mile and third in the 3200-meter run; Quentin Wetsel placed third in the 400 dash and Rhett Torres fourth; Williams was third in the triple jump; Bruce Wingo was fifth and Keegan Von Atzigen sixth in the 800; Nemir was sixth in the long jump; A.D. Davis was fifth in the shot put; and Adan Sanchez was sixth in the 3,200-meter run.
“We are extremely proud of the boys this year,” said boys track coach Zac Harrell. “They ran extremely hard all season and we are excited about the future.”
