Seven 2013 graduating high school senior athletes, as well as two coaches, from Nolan County will participate in Fellowship of Chris-tian Athletes all-star games in Abilene on Saturday.
Six of the athletes — Tadeo Canon-Masjoan, Shelby Cason, Kelsi Cros-son, Ryan Linebaugh, Nick Nemir and Suede Shirley — are from Sweetwater as are both coaches, Shane Mob-ley and Liz Miller.
Canon-Masjoan, Nemir and Linebaugh, along with Landon Jones of Roscoe, have been selected to play for the North all-star team in Saturday’s football game at Shotwell Stadium that will kick off at 7 p.m. Mobley will be an assistant coach for the North.
Cason, Shirley and Cros-son are on the North team for Saturday’s volleyball game at Wylie High School’s gym that tips off at noon, and Miller is an assistant coach for the North.
Another recent Sweetwa-ter High School graduate played in Thursday’s fifth annual FCA girls basketball all-star game held at Brownwood. Kendra Cros-son was on the North team and scored seven points.
Despite her effort, Cros-son’s team lost to the South all-stars 52-48 as the South stayed unbeaten in the five all-star contests. This was the first one to be played in Brownwood, however.
Margaret Lemke of Mason was named MVP and was one of three players in double figures for the South all-stars, while Stephenville’s Sheridon Stokes scored 11 points to lead the North.
Ciara Cope of Merkel (nine) and Stephenville’s Leslie Billings (eight) were the only other North play-ers with more points than Crosson, who played her final basketball game. She will play volleyball at Cisco Junior College next year, along with twin sister Kelsi and Kathleen Campbell, also a 2013 SHS graduate.
The FCA has announced plans to add softball and baseball to its all-star festival in 2014.
