Sweetwater, led by pitcher James Clift, had nine players earn All-Big Country baseball recognition from the Abilene Reporter-News.
Clift was one of 10 pitch-ers on the All-Big Country team, which included five starters and five, including Clift, in the “bullpen.”
Clift was the Mustangs’ leader in several pitching categories, finishing 8-3 with a 2.89 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 75 innings as Sweetwater made the playoffs for the first time in nine years. He also played second base and earned All-Big Country honorable mention as an infielder along with four other Mustangs — first baseball Greg Aiken, second baseman J.P. Poe, shortstop Dylan Bennett and third baseman Cole Maxwell. In addition, Poe and Maxwell received honorable mention as pitchers as did outfielders Shawn Campbell, Kaleb Hoover and Stephen May and catcher Sean Morrow.
All nine players received all-District 4-3A recognition last month for Sweetwater, which finished the season as district co-champions and went on to defeat Fabens in bi-district and Pampa in the area playoffs before being eliminated by Andrews in the regional quarterfinals.
