Three of the four Sweet-water Little League all-star teams begin bracket play today at District 5 tourna-ments being held at various baseball parks in Abilene, with hopes of faring much better after going a collect-ive 0-6 during pool play.
The 9-10 and 11-12 all-stars completed pool play Wednesday when they lost to Abilene Dixie and Abilene Southern by scores of 15-0 and 13-8, respectively, while the Junior League all-stars finished up pool play Tuesday when they lost to Snyder 20-7.
Actually, all four Sweet-water Little League all-star teams will be seeing action today as the 10-11 year-olds, will continue pool play. They face Wylie at the Wylie field starting at 8 p.m. Sweetwater is 1-0 in pool play after a 3-1 win Tuesday over Snyder and still has pool play games left Friday against Abilene Eastern and next Monday against Clyde. Sweetwater must have just one pool play loss or fewer in order to stay in the tour-nament as bracket play be-gins Tuesday. Pool losses will carry forward.
The other three Sweet-water all-star teams get a fresh start in bracket play. The 9-10 year-olds, seeded 10th out of 11 teams, will face 7th-seeded Snyder at Wylie’s field at 8 p.m. while the 11-12 year-olds — seeded 11th out of 12 teams — face No. 6 Eastern at 8 p.m. at Abilene Northern. Finally, the Junior Leaguers — or 13-14 year-olds — who are seeded last out of nine teams — will face No. 8 seed Jim Ned at 8 p.m. today at Abilene North. Bracket play will be double-elimination for all four age divisions.
