Several members of next year’s Highland High School girls basketball team recently attended a Team Camp that was held at Lubbock Christian University.
At the camp, they participated in a tournament where they won eight of their nine games en route to claiming the tournament championship in the Grey Division.
Highland went 5-1 in pool play before taking all three of their games in the championship round.
In pool play, Highland was victorious against teams from Westbrook, Ropes, Garden City and Anton as well as Amarillo Tascosa’s JV, with the only loss to Lubbock Christian.After a bye to begin the championship round, the Lady Hornets again beat Ropes and then defeated Anton in the semifinals before taking the Grey Division title with a win over Garden City.
Players for Highland (pictured above from left starting at top) were Kay-lee Martin, Beth Richburg, Sierra Allen, Hannah Allen, Bailey Garrett, Hannah Kirby, Summer Huizar, Madison Moseley, Kailee Hall and Sabrina Romero.
They were also part of the Highland team that made the state semifinals before losing to top-ranked Saltillo this past season. Highland beat Garden City in the regional finals and also posted playoff victories over Zephyr, Water Valley and Baird en route to reaching the Class 1A, Division II girls state tournament for the first time in school history. Under head coach Shea Baucom, the Lady Hornets finished 31-5 overall and were District 13-A, D-II champions.
