Garylen Pimpton, 60, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Macedonia Baptist Church, 608 North 7th Street with Reverend Tommy Jackson Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene under direction of Abilene Funeral Home.
Mr. Pimpton was born Sept. 23, 1952, in Abilene. He was a member at Macedonia Baptist Church and a former member of Mt. Rose Baptist Church in Sweetwater. He joined the U.S. Army in 1973 and had been an employee of the Texas Correctional Department of Justice in Colorado City.
Survivors include his father, Marion Conner, Sr.; five children, Garylen Pimpton, Jr., Cory Daughtery, Nicole Monique Heath, Donovan Pimpton and Felciana Pimpton; seven brothers, Ruben, Delbert and Todd Pimpton, Douglas, Bobby, Terry Lee and Ocie Conner; five sisters, Betty McCray, Juanice Jackson, Vanessa Pimpton, Ruby Conner Morris and Octavia Collins; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Pimpton was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and T.J. Pimpton, Sr.; three brothers, Norris and T.J. Pimpton, Jr. and Jullius Conner; and five sisters, Margery English, Janet Howard, Verlene Davis, Lavern Thomas and Donnie Gail.
The family will receive friends Thursday at a visitation from 6-8 p.m. at Abilene Funeral Home, 3349 N. 12th Street.
