Graveside services for Marvin D. Walker, 81, of Sweetwater will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Claude McKiddy officiating. Military graveside rites will be performed. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Walker died Friday, Aug. 5, 2013, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Roscoe. He married Mary Lou Kenney on April 9, 1992, in Roby. He was a member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church. He lived in Sweetwater since 1942. Marvin worked for the Sweetwater Police Department from March 16, 1957 to April 30, 1967 and worked for the Nolan County Sheriff’s Department from May 1, 1969 to March 31, 1976 as Chief Deputy. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was discharged from the reserves in 1960. He also had worked for The Reeves Company, the City of Sweetwater, and I-20 Exxon Service Station.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Walker of Sweetwater; daughter, Susan Rochelle Clark and husband Jimmy of Decatur; two sons, Alvin Burl Walker and wife Ida of Sweetwater and Brent Dennis Walker and wife Carolyn of Katy; brother, Wylie B. Walker and wife Janice of Hawley; step daughter, Lindi Elkin and husband Eric of Talpa; step son Doug Drake and wife Laura of Jacksonville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
