The Roscoe Collegiate Independent School District board of trustees, administration and staff would like to extend an invitation to the local community and surrounding area to attend the 2013 Open House for Roscoe Collegiate ISD on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 6-8 p.m. in the Roscoe Collegiate Special Event Center.
"As many of you know, last year we began an in-school 4H program for grades 3 through 6, centered upon student 4H science projects. This year, as a new STEM Academy District, we plan to expand that opportunity to grades 7 and 8. One important extension of the in-school program is the after-school program that is conducted in a more relaxed and fun environment. It is our desire to structure that program in such a way that all 245 students in grades 3 through 8 can participate. To run a large-scale after-school program, that is a positive extension of the in-school program, structure is imperative. Therefore, we are also looking for parent or community volunteers to volunteer an hour of time every couple of weeks to provide structured support for the after-school 4H activities."
Parents, teachers, employees or just community members interested in volunteering can sign up during Open House, or come by and visit with Elementary Principal, Andy Wilson (800 Elm St.), or Early College/STEM Director, Jacob Tiemann (1101 West 7th St.), for more information.
"To bring the program to scale without charging students a membership fee, we also hope to raise funds to support the program. Therefore, we will also be serving a $5 brisket taco supper (including chips and drink) in the cafeteria in conjunction with this year's Open House, or you can make a cash donation."
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Roscoe Collegiate 4H Program to fund after-school activities and STEM related field trips. All community and area patrons interested in viewing the work of the students are welcome and encouraged to attend.
"We look forward to seeing you then and appreciate your support of Roscoe Collegiate ISD."
