The Highland girls picked up their first win of the 2010-11 season on Friday, but the Highland boys and Roscoe girls both lost.
Highland’s girls (1-3) rallied in the second half for a 45-41 win over Sands. However, Highland’s boys lost 63-2 and Roscoe’s girls fell to Cross Plains 29-28.
After losing their last two games by a combined two points, Highland’s girls had to overcome a 23-18 halftime deficit to beat Sands.
The Lady Hornets pulled ahead by a point, 29-28, at the end of three periods and then outscored Sands 16-13 in the fourth quarter.
Kara Hughey scored 18 points to pace Highland and Callie Sandusky added 12. Sierra Allen and Shyan Womack had six points and Lora Stewart three.
Both of Highland’s teams will be playing at Spur on Tuesday. Landon Rowlett scored for Highland’s boys (0-2) in Friday’s game against Sands.
Kimberly Norris had 14 points and Sara Kingston 11 for the Roscoe girls (1-2), who were tied 9-9 after one period but led 17-13 at halftime against Cross Plains.
However, the Plowgirls fell behind 21-19 after a two-point third quarter and came up short despite winning the fourth quarter 9-8.
Results were not available at press time, but Blackwell’s girls played at the Priddy tournament this weekend while the boys were at a tournament in Robert Lee, and both Blackwell teams will entertain Christoval on Monday. Both Roscoe teams host Colorado City on Tuesday with Roscoe’s boys playing their opener.
