B-Spring rallies past SW

Some losses hurt a little more than others.That was the case here on Saturday as the Sweetwater volleyball team let what ap-peared to be a sure win turn into a five-game loss in a crucial District 4-3A match against Big Spring.Sweetwater (1-2, 21-12) rallied from a 25-23 loss in the opener to win the next two by scores of 25-20 and 25-18, and was on the verge of closing out the match af-ter going ahead 22-18 in the fourth game.But Big Spring went on a 7-1 run to win 25-23 and force a Game 5.Sweetwater jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the decisive game, but Big Spring scored the next five points and never trailed again.The Lady Steers (2-1 in district, 22-12 overall)wound up with a 15-8 win while sending Sweetwater to a devastating defeat.Sweetwater now goes to Wylie — which is tied with Monahans for first at 3-0 — on Tuesday to start a three-game road trip, followed by Greenwood (0-3) and Monahans before returning home to face Snyder.Sweetwater’s sub-varsity teams both won, as the JV (1-2) prevailed 22-25, 25-18, 25-22 and the freshmen (2-1) won 25-19, 25-22.Kendra Crosson finished with 12 kills and 22 digs in the varsity match. Kathleen Campbell added 10 kills, while Kelsi Crosson and Suede Shirley had nine and Shelby Cason seven. Kelsi Crosson had 15 digs, Mikki Reschman 14, Shirley 13, Janell Walker nine, Taylor McPherson eight, Cason and Campbell six and Kayla Chowning five. Shirley had 37 assists and two aces; Cason had three aces and four blocks; Campbell had three blocks and two aces; Larissa Locklar had three digs, one block and one kill; Walker had one assist and two service aces; McPherson had two kills; and Destiny Osteen had one dig.
