B.J. (Bill) Lawhon

B.J. (Bill) Lawhon, age 84, of Sweetwater, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Masonic graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Garden of Memories with the Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 A.F. and A.M. officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. Bill was born on Oct. 2, 1928, in Champion, Texas to Marion Coleman and Annie Lorene (Ussery) Lawhon. He married Edith Rawlings on Sept. 10, 1946 in Sweetwater, Texas. He was a quarry foreman for USG for 39 years before retiring. Bill was a member of Westside Baptist Church (now Avondale Baptist) and a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He also was an active 50 year-plus member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571, A.F. and A.M., Waco Scottish Rite 33rd degree, Waco York Rite, Waco York Rite College, TX Pioroy #23, Suez Shrine, Sweetwater V.F.W. and American Legion. He served as a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge. He received the Golden Trowel Award. He was survived by his daughter, Donna Adams and husband Rick of Sweetwater; son, Steve Lawhon and wife Julie of Sache, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer, Wendy, Scott, Andrew, Trey, Tracey, Kevin, Beth, Billy and wife Misty, Dakota and wife Haylie and Carlee; great-grandchildren, Brenon, Branson, Braiden, Brent, Zoey, Dakota and Bradach; brother, Jackey Ray Lawhon of Sweetwater; and close friends of the family, Welton and Lise Guelker. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Coleman and Annie Lorene Lawhon; wife, Edith Lawhon; three brothers, Johnny Mac, Coleman and Alfred; grandson, Matthew Guelker; and great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Guelker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 815 Market Street, Galveston, Texas 77550-2725 or Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571, A.F. and A.M. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, at the funeral home.
