BLACKWELL — The Blackwell Hornets keep on winning as the 2018 football regular season nears the halfway mark.
The latest win came Friday, when they improved to 4-0 with a 49-0, mercy-rule decision at home over Lueders-Avoca which ended at halftime. It was Blackwell’s first shutout and the Hornets have improved defensively each of the past three weeks after opening with a 52-40 win over Eden.
The defense also produced a touchdown on Friday after an interception by Brenden Scott that he returned for a score. It was one of the team’s two interceptions, the other coming by Brandon Brinkman.
The offense, meanwhile, was also quite productive as it had 230 yards on 25 snaps. Brinkman, Cameron Coldiron, Peyton Hinckley and Joe Sanchez had rushing scores for the Hornets, who finished with 155 yards on 18 totes. Hinckley and Hunter Perry also tallied on TD throws by Michael Lowry (4-of-7, 75 yards). Hinckley caught two passes and Perry and Caleb Sirmons one. Brinkman was the top rusher (50 yards on six runs).
The leading individual tackler was Perry, who had seven stops, while Devan Clower, Scott and Coldiron each had three.
