BLACKWELL — Once again, the Blackwell Hornets are off to a 3-0 start after defeating Newcastle 58-12 on Friday.
And unlike the Hornets’ first two wins, this one was rather easy.
Blackwell led 38-6 entering the second quarter, then tacked on 20 more points to close the game out by halftime due to the 45-point mercy rule.
Brandon Brinkman was very productive for Blackwell as he finished with 75 yards and four touchdowns rushing for the Hornets on six carries. He added a fifth TD on a kickoff return.
Brinkman’s scoring runs went 9, 11, 26 and 12 yards.
Cameron Coldiron added 75 yards rushing and a TD for Blackwell, which gained 237 yards on the ground.
Michael Lowry, meanwhile, was 5-of-6 passing for 81 yards and connected on two touchdown passes to Peyton Hinckley which went for 37 and 22 yards, respectively. Junior Guia kicked five of his eight PAT attempts for Blackwell against Newcastle.
Also getting rush yards for the Hornets on limited carries were Hinckley (32 yards), Joe Sanchez (20), Guia (19) and Lowry (16) while Coldiron, Joel Guia and Caleb Sirmons also had catches for Blackwell.
Leading defenders were Sanchez with seven tackles, Nathaniel Shipman with six tackles, Coldiron with four tackles and Junior Guia with three. Four Hornets finished with two tackles.
