Burn ban reinstated

The burn ban for Nolan County was reinstated at the county commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, November 26, 2012 at the Nolan County Courthouse.The commissioners jointly discussed the idea on whether to leave the burn ban off, but then Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden--who was in attendance at the meeting--was asked about the overall outlook of the county. Madden stated that the weather outlook is projecting drier and windier conditions, leading the commissioners to make the decision.The burn ban will remain in effect for at least the next two weeks or the next court-appointed meeting date.In other action items, approval was given for a $5,000 bond for county attorney Lisa Peterson. The minutes from the meetings held on October 22, October 30, November 13 and November 14 were all approved as well, and the reports from the Nolan County Sheriff, Tax and Welfare offices were received.Also at the meeting, a brief presentation was made by Tasha Baxter with the Nolan County Extension Office. She offered information on disaster preparedness awareness, citing an app available only on iPhones that offer tips, resources and advice on disasters like wildfires, illness outbreaks, along with ideas on what to pack in an emergency evacuation kit.
