Visiting Colorado City used an early 12-0 run to go ahead for good in Monday’s non-district game against the Sweetwater girls basketball team in its 47-36 win at Mustang Gym.
Sweetwater is now 0-9 for its new head coach Devin Griffin, who said her team was coming off its best two games of the year. The Lady Mustangs took Irving High and North Dallas to overtime before losing their last two games of the Allen tournament over the weekend.
“I’m just preaching consistency,” Griffin said. “We can’t pick and choose when we play hard. But it’s still early and we will continue to work hard.”
Sweetwater was among the smallest schools at Allen and went 0-5 at the tournament, losing all its games to bigger schools. The last two games were a 60-58 loss to Irving and a 42-38 defeat by North Dallas.
Sweetwater trailed 13-7 after one quarter vs. C-City after the Lady Wolves went on a 10-0 run at the end of the period, but the Lady Mustangs were able to remain within striking distance until the third quarter when C-City ended on a 13-1 run for a 41-24 lead.
Sweetwater was paced by Amber Knox with 15 points. The team goes to Lipan for its next contest on Nov. 28.
