Co-ed softball tourney, home run derby slated

Calling all local and area softball players!
Sweetwater will have a first-ever Co-ed Slow Pitch Softball Tournament and 50-50 Home Run Derby at the Jerry Collins Complex the last weekend in June.
The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 29 with the first games at 7 a.m. The tournament will be double elimination with 10 teams and will be open to anyone who is 18 years of age or older. The cost is $20 per person. The event is a fundraiser whose proceeds benefit Sweetwater softball.
Teams may consist of as many people as you like. Team entries are due by June 24 to Tim Scherwin, who is the Sweetwater High School softball coach. His email is Please make any checks payable to Sweetwater Softball.
The game rules will be as follows:
— Games are five innings or one hour, 30 minutes;
— One team home run is allowed per game with each additional home run to be considered an out;
— Teams may purchase additional home runs for $5 each prior to any game;
— All batters start with a 3-2 count with one foul ball allowed before a strikeout;
— Teams must use an alternating batting order with 10 players batting and nine players on defense;
— No bunting or stealing is allowed;
— Teams will provide one umpire for the game that follows their own.
A 50/50 Home Run Der-by will be held Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m. (be present at least 15 minutes early) at Jerry Collins Complex. The entry fee is $10. Hitters will get 10 outs and must provide their own pitcher.
