Sweetwater High School’s baseball team played its last games of 2020 in March not at an Abilene tournament as planned, but instead at Lubbock Christian in a last-minute doubleheader.
The Abilene tournament, and Sweetwater’s season, wound up being cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite that cancellation, four Sweetwater seniors — first teamers Tony Heredia and Elijah Reyes as well as second teamers Andres Neri and Daiman Atkins — were named this past week to an all-district senior team chosen by district coaches.
Each team was allowed to have up to two players on the first or second team.
First teamers Heredia and Reyes were chosen at pitcher and outfield, respectively. Second teamers Neri and Atkins were chosen at second base and outfield-pitcher, respectively.
Sweetwater’s other three 2020 seniors — Tyler Warner, Reese Palafox and Gavin Reyes — and the four on the all-district team are in the “Sweetwater Senior Spotlight.”
