Former Roscoe football players to live a dream

The third round of Texas Alumni Football for the area will be here in April, but this time, it will make dreams come true for many Roscoe alumni.Former high school players from Roscoe have gathered to form a team and live out this dream. The dream? Playing a game of football at Cowboys Stadium. The games are open to all alumni of the Roscoe Plowboys and the ages of the players will likely range from nineteen to mid-forties. The alumni team will play another alumni team from Commerce, a 3A school, northeast of Dallas. Two games will be played at the stadium that day, Saturday, April 14, 2012. The Roscoe game will begin at 6 p.m. and gates open at 4 p.m. Tickets will be $35 at the gate for the game and includes a tour of the stadium."It would be great to get the community involved in this game as it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our alumni," said one of the alumni football players Nathan Hartkopf. Most former high school football players never thought they would play again. “You don’t just play pickup games of full contact football when you graduate. For many guys, football is the biggest thing in the world in high school and then it’s taken away forever. People tell us all the time about how they’ve literally dreamed about the chance to play again,” says Tim Bishop, Director of Texas Alumni Football. The alumni games have been popular with players and fans. “We’ve heard from several West Texas towns that the biggest crowd they ever had was for the alumni game,” says Bishop.Local communities enjoy a rare opportunity to watch their former gridiron stars in action again. Each team can have up to 50 players with a minimum of 30 players per team. "If you are on the team, you will play," says Hartkopf. "This is a great way to represent both high schools and get to experience playing a game at Cowboys Stadium."Part of the proceeds from the game go to charity. For more information, visit
