Free blood sugar checks at SNCHD

Chris Bauman from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department on Thursday, June 12, from 8:30 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose (sugar) and answer any questions patients may have regarding diabetes. Pamphlets and materials will be available.The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD) provides immunizations every Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. The health department encourages parents to keep their children up-to-date on their vaccines. If you have any questions regarding immunizations, call 235-5463. Children with private health insurance need to be vaccinated by their physician unless private insurance does not pay for vaccines, then the child can be vaccinated at the health department. Through the Vaccine for Children program there is a $6 administration fee per child, and Medicaid and CHIPS are accepted.Parents are reminded that all students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine, and two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. All students entering seventh grade are required to have one dose of Tetanus and Diphtheria toxoids and acellular Pertussis vaccine (TDAP) vaccine, one dose of meningococcal vaccine, and two doses of varicella vaccine. A written statement from a legal guardian, school nurse or physician attesting to a child’s positive history of varicella disease (chickenpox), or of varicella immunity is acceptable in lieu of either dose of varicella vaccine. Please make sure children are up-to-date before school starts.Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, methods of birth control and screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
